30% of Adults Feel They Have to Order a Beer on St. Patrick’s Day—Green or Otherwise—Even If They Don’t Want One.
Irish stouts and espresso martinis are both luxurious dark drinks with a velvety texture and a creamy head, and Kahlúa’s St. Patrick’s Day campaign calls attention to their similarities.
According to Kahlúa, the world’s number one coffee liqueur brand, “stout’s out and espresso martinis are in.”
New research from the brand reveals that that 30% of consumers feel they have to order a beer on the holiday, even if they don’t want one. This St. Patrick’s Day, the brand is reminding drinkers that they don’t have to settle for a drink they don’t want—and they don’t have to fear intense scrutiny from other drinkers since Irish stouts and espresso martinis are so alike, visually and texturally.
What’s more, Kahlúa found that 95% of Americans think it’s cool to drink an espresso martini on St. Patrick’s Day.
Knowing that drinkers crave more creative cocktails, Kahlúa concocted the Irish Espresso Martini, which subs Jameson Irish Whiskey for Absolut Vodka to create the classic espresso martini’s Irish cousin.
“Ultimately, we want everyone to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in their own way with whatever drink they desire,” said Craig van Niekerk, Global VP of Marketing for Kahlúa, “Whether that’s a pint of stout, a dazzling Espresso Martini, or just a tall glass of water, it’s each to their own, right? We say Salud and Slainté to everyone, no matter what drink you fancy!”
On March 17th, Kahlúa partnered with Hogans in Dublin on a pop-up Espresso Martini bar. Fortunately for those who missed the opportunity to sip a complimentary espresso martini, one of the world’s most popular cocktails has an easy-to-prepare recipe that’s ready to enjoy year-round.
